Visit Copenhagen
From a humble fishing village to its heyday as the glittering capital of the Danish empire, Copenhagen is now one of the world's premier designer capitals and Scandinavia's pre-eminent city.
Visit world-class museums, explore the landmark Tivoli amusement park or shop on the world's longest pedestrian mall, the Stroget. Gaze at the winter residence of the Danish Royal Family, the beautiful Amalienborg Palace, take a canal tour or a boat trip from the harbourside, or pay a visit to Kronborg, made famous in Shakepeare's Hamlet. And as if to highlight Copenhagen's rich cultural reputation as a hip and happening city, this autumn of 2006 sees George Michael, Bruce Springsteen and the Beach Boys all performing concerts in the city centre, as well as the Copenhagen Blues festival. If music is your thing, then Copenhagen really is the place to be in 2006!
Local Cuisine Copenhagen offers plenty of good dining options, from old-fashioned Danish pubs to trendy fusion cafes. There is nothing however, that captures that Danish flavour more than smörrebröd ('buttered bread'), an open-faced sandwich that ranges from very basic fare to elaborately fashioned creations.
